Plucky Plunkers has been selected to do a residency at the International Toy Piano Festival in January of next year in the Tampa Bay area of Florida! Super excited to present a program that we’ve decided to title “Chicago Down Under” where we will feature Chicago based composers in a very eclectic program of toy piano duo music.
This Saturday! –> 9/16/17 2 p.m. at Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church
Rocking Chair Series IV will happen again with even more crazy music. Featuring the works of Kelley Sheehan, Luis Fernando Amaya, Jesse Diener-Bennett, Elliott Lupp, Olivier Loubieres, and Nicolas Gutierrez. I dive into the minds of these composers as we try to learn why they write the way they write and how they find inspiration and life through it. Part of the Ravenswood Art Walk, it will be an insightful afternoon for all!
This Sunday! –> 9/17/17 2 p.m. at Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church
Ursa Ensemble hits the stage to present a program of a new work by Jeff Kowalkowski and Messiaen’s epic Quartet for the End of Time. Students $7 and Adults $14, we will also have an art auction featuring art from the past of our previous concerts!
I will be headed to Avaloch Farms Music Institute next week with Lake Effect Quartet to work on a newly commissioned clarinet quartet for the group, as well as preparing for my next solo recital on September 16! I just updated my events page and am going to put up some new things soon!

Happy to have an upload of SOUP and MY DEAR SWEET ETC up on my works page now!
I will have recordings of my new cabaret song and piece for the Civic Orchestra Fellowship up very soon !
The premiere on Sunday for Who Are These, Who Come Like Clouds? was given to a sold out show and I cannot thank Jonathan McCormick, Michael Lewanski, and the performers enough for their stunning interpretation and presentation of the piece. The recording will be up soon and features me playing the role of Satan.
I’m on a podcast! Check it out:
Saturday was a lot of fun as the Plucky Plunkers duo made it’s debut with newly commissioned works, previously written works, and an improvisation. We will have more concerts coming up, but will take our time as we plot out the second of the series: Sophomore Slump. We have some exciting news to announce about this project too, but that will come later!
My Boston premiere of my song cycle was a wonderful success with an absolutely incredible performance done by Joshua Scheid and the CMEtc players. Happy to be back in a city with a mostly functional transit system though XD.
Finally I will be on a podcast this week called AudPod. I’ll put the full interview up when it is out! In the meantime check it out on Facebook here.
I have updated my events page on the site, and as you can see there is a lot coming up!
I am very excited for my upcoming civic fellowship project. We went through the read through and workshop of my piece and I am ecstatic to see the final result in May. Death whistles seem to be a good touch to say the least.
My friend and colleague Kelley Sheehan and I will be performing for the first time our new Toy piano group duo: Plucky Plunkers. Come check us out on the 29th of April, as we start to plunk the possibilities of these plinky instruments. With world premieres by Stephen Boi, Kelley, and myself. It’s going to be a great night!
I am headed to Boston for the world premiere of my song cycle that I wrote for Joshua Scheid and CMEtc next week and will have the honor to work with Tony Arnold from ICE on the piece! Very excited to see the end result on April 22.
In May I will have the premiere of my new cabaret song Lament for Public Transit written for Nicholas Colombat and Sophie Boyer in Cambridge, MA and Roanne, France at the music festival Le Printemps Musical. First international premiere!
A new project I am now writing for is with Christopher Narloch and Kayleigh Butcher for the Schoenberg’s Das Buch der hängenden Gärten, Op.15. I am to write a piece inspired by one of the pieces of the song cycle, and I will be featured along with 14 other composers!
Finally I am headed to a residency at Avaloch Farm Music institute in New Hampshire with Lake Effect Quartet in August to workshop and perform the piece I wrote for them this year!
Exciting projects up ahead with announcements to come!
I am currently in my hobbit hole engraving so I’ll post more when these pieces are done.
Three new works to be premiered in April and May! Couldn’t be more excited.
Here’s a pic:
Rocking Chair 3 happened and it was an incredibly moving time to share such great music with great people. I’m currently in the works of plotting the fourth one out and making a move to apply for grants to continue the project!
My song cycle to be premiered in April is coming up quick and I am extremely excited for that. I am also now working on a large ensemble piece for the Civic Orchestra Composers Project. While also writing a few cabaret songs for my good friend Nicolas Colombat, and completing a silent film music score for Access Contemporary Musics Silent Film Series. Which will be premiered in April as well as a performance in May. Dates on premieres will be updated as they come in!
Also I am engaged now! Which is also a huge deal to say the least to my wonderful partner in crime Suzanne Gillen =)
To be performed at Boston Conservatory on April 22, 2017 at 8 p.m.!
