Program Notes:

Set to a text by Gertrude Stein, Susie Asado explores a world focused on the sounds of the words rather than their meanings. The textures heard in the piano and the toy piano are incorporated to intensify these sounds and accompany these repetitive patterns. Repetition is an important element in this piece and works to increase the tension and the importance of the phrases that are either sung or spoken by the singers. The textures heard in the piano and toy piano are incorporated to intensify these sounds and accompany these repetitive patterns. Perhaps my favorite description of this work that I heard from a colleague is that it resembles something of a “surrealist acid trip.”
